A few odd facts:
(based on a little too much spare time and new tuning device):
- Electric toothbrush tuned to C
- Vacuum cleaner tuned to D
- Macintosh startup chord: F# major
- My neighbor’s Ford’s horn: combo of G and B
- Smoke detector alarm: very loud F
- Hard drive fan: just shy of a D
- The bell that tolls the hours in the tower of the Unitarian church in my hoity-toity New England town: C
- The bell of the Catholic church just down the hill: none; they don’t have a bell
A few take-aways:
- You can easily tune your ukulele to an electric toothbrush.
- If you ever want to play “A Day in the Life” by the Beatles, you can do an amazing duet with a Mac, if you time it just right.
- Do NOT try to play along with a smoke detector. If it’s making sound, there’s probably a fire, and your ukulele is probably made of wood. Think, friend, think.
- If you need to know the time in my town, don’t ask a Catholic.
