I always like to share concrete how-to uke tips with you, like my list of simple lists you can use to improve your uke practice.
But this uke tip is a little different…
It’s not a tip about how to play the uke.
It’s a tip about tips!
Because every time I send you an email with a tip, you have the choice:
- go try it, OR
- delete the email and go eat cake
Either way, odds are very good that the tip I send you today, won’t still be in your brain tomorrow.
So my tip today is:
EXPERIMENT.
- find a melody on the strings (or just one note of a melody — keep it simple!)
- figure out the next chord in a song
- work out a strum pattern
- or whatever
You get the idea. Whatever you need — experiment and find it yourself.
No book, no video.

When you figure it out yourself, it sticks in your brain differently.
So pick a song.
And experiment!
And —
You can still go eat cake.
