the uke?
I have a gentle reminder for your that I think you’ll like.
I’ve been working on a new uke program for you (coming soon), and
as I get close to having it ready, I’m getting more and more
eager to have it “perfected.”
You ever work on a song like that? The anticipation of a new,
perfect song in your repertoire can drive you into crazy practice
mode!
Sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
But, more and more, I think I like the approach of the famous
jazz trumpeter, Dizzy Gillespie (you know, the guy with crazy
chipmunk cheeks):
“It’s taken me all my life to learn what not to play,”
He’s talking about space within a song.
But don’t you think that applies to the way we approach practice,
and projects?
We tend to want to do more more more, faster faster faster.
Picture an adorable puppy blitzing around the living room at top
speed. And then getting to the uncarpeted kitchen floor.
Those little puppy legs keep moving the same speed, but he’s
getting nowhere!
Traction over movement? Is that the lesson?
Just pondering.
